Transforming existing space into a modern bioengineering lab.

The UC San Diego Powell Focht Bioengineering Renovation reimagined an underutilized area within an active campus building to better support hands-on learning and innovation. The project transformed basement office space into a modern instructional wet lab, complete with a tissue culture room, makers space, and supporting facilities. Located within an active research and education building, the work required careful coordination to integrate new lab infrastructure alongside existing specialized environments. Early planning, advanced coordination tools, and strategic trade partner involvement enabled the team to deliver a high-performance learning environment on schedule and within budget, supporting the next generation of bioengineering education and research.
