BURIEN CITY HALL, LIBRARY AND PARKING STRUCTURE

This $18 million facility houses Burien’s City Hall and King County Library System’s Burien Branch Library. At a total of 49,000 SF, the Library occupies the first and second floors, with the City Hall located on the third floor. Offices, meeting rooms, council chambers, and shared spaces are incorporated around both the City Hall and Library Spaces. In addition, an associated two-level concrete parking garage, community open space, and a new city park is located adjacent to the building. This GC/CM project was built to LEED® Silver standards.

KING COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM, FIVE DESIGN-BUILD LIBRARIES

These design–build projects for the King County Library System included five new libraries in five different locations: Black Diamond, Carnation, Fall City, Auburn, and Snoqualmie. This is the first time that KCLS has used the design-build delivery method. The project included demolition of the existing facilities as well as coordination of owner move-out and move-in activities. The five libraries, ranging in construction cost from $1.8 - $2.2 million each, feature community gathering spaces and meeting rooms.
Although these projects are not LEED® certified, they are all LEED® compliant. Sustainable elements include enhanced stormwater design, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, commissioning, onsite recycling, and recycled materials. BNB also incorporated bicycle racks, public transportation access, reduced heat island effect, reduced light pollution, water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, lighting controls, and daylighting.

PUYALLUP TRIBE OF INDIANS, ELDER’S CENTER

The new Elder’s Center will be a 15,000 SF, two-story structure designed to include elements of Pacific Northwest Native American architecture. The facility will provide basic services and activities for tribal elders. Administration areas will accomodate office/conference/support functions as well as facility maintenance. A Health and Wellness Center will feature a fitness center and space for physical therapy, including a therapy pool and spa. Additional amenities throughout the facility will include a commercial kitchen, banquet room, classrooms, arts/crafts room, and library.
Site work will include landscaping, a spirit garden, parking areas, and pedestrian paths to create a sense of campus and link adjacent buildings to the Elder’s Center.
Currently under construction, the new Elder’s Center will be completed in July 2009.

PUYALLUP TRIBE OF INDIANS, COMMUNITY YOUTH MULTI-PURPOSE FACILITY

This new facility will be located adjacent to the Chief Leschi School on the Puyallup Indian Tribe’s campus and will accommodate a variety of Tribal events. The 26,100 SF facility will house a basketball court, running track, great room for events, offices, meeting rooms, reception area, full–sized commercial kitchen, youth center, locker rooms, and a wellness center.
Completion of this project is scheduled for April 2010.
