BNB provided preconstruction and construction services for this $63 million first phase of John Muir’s significant master planned expansion. The 327,000 SF, eight-story structure included 44,000 SF of medical use and 768 stalls of parking. Medical uses, which are partially below grade on the first floor, include a surgery center, endoscopy, imaging, and an eye lab. BNB assisted with the coordination of the fully-designed MEP system and interfaces with five architectural and tenant improvement designers. The biggest challenges posed by this project were the issues related to the combined use of the overall structure as a medical facility and a parking structure. BNB supported the design efforts by providing budgeting, scheduling, value analysis, and constructability reviews to help integrate the challenging vibration, acoustic, and structural design elements into the project. Four phases leading up to the project included the remodel of the hospital loading dock, helistop relocation, and site utilities relocations (OSHPD). Construction was completed December 2007.

Completed April 2008, this $6.5 million project consisted of a complete seismic renovation and interior improvements to an existing one-story, 10,000 SF medical office building as well as tenant improvement construction and exterior improvements to accommodate a new Off-Site Imaging Outpatient Center. The facility replaces an imaging clinic, doctor offices, and physical therapy clinic. The new Stanford Medicine Imaging Center houses two state of the art magnetic resonance (MR) suites and two computed tomography (CT) scan rooms.

The 1960’s structure received substantial structural upgrades, including lateral support walls on either side of the front façade, along with additional roof framing members, columns, and adding connectors to perimeter walls and footings. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were replaced in order to support the requirements of the imaging equipment housed in this building.

The $15.5 million Center encompasses medical, dental, counseling, and recreation facilities. The overall project included public entrances with lobbies and reception areas for each major use within the center. Additionally, administrative offices and conference facilities are located throughout. Other facilities which support the entire complex include medical and dental records rooms, a computer server room, storage facilities, a loading dock, and a full-service kitchen. Individual elements of the project include:

Medical - Urgent care and triage, examination rooms, a blood room, a laboratory, and an imaging center.

Dental - 12 dental examination areas, dental operating rooms, and dental imaging.

Counseling Center - Individual counseling offices, childcare facilities, and a demonstration and training kitchen.

Physical Therapy - Therapy pool, exercise room, weight room, aquatic facility with lap pool, locker rooms, a full-size gymnasium, and two racquetball courts.

Providence Health and Services relocated their corporate headquarters to this 120,000 SF three building campus. The $12 million build-out included renovations to the two-story South, East, and West Buildings of the Valley Office Park. Amenities included executive and support offices, conference center, library, fitness center, cafeteria with seating for 100, and a full-service kitchen.

The project required special attention to the structure. To avoid compromising the structural slab, BNB performed 400 lineal feet of tunneling to install underslab plumbing. The building’s also required installation of complex audio/visual equipment to allow for teleconferencing capabilities and multi-media equipment.

Completed November 2008, this project is LEED® Gold certified.

Each project included from 10 to 25 dialysis stations plus one or more isolated dialysis stations. Facilities also included training rooms, offices, conference rooms, nurses’ stations, and materials storage. All clinics required water purification and process piping to support dialysis process.
