UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, DENNY HALL RENOVATION

BNB recently provided preconstruction services for the renovation of historic Denny Hall on the University of Washington’s main campus. This 90,000 SF structure was built in 1895 and is listed in the Washington State Heritage Register. Upon completion, the building will house four academic departments: Anthropology, Classics, Germanics, and Near Eastern Language and Civilization. The $32 million renovation will include upgrading all major building systems, correcting seismic deficiencies, and hazardous material abatement.

BURIEN CITY HALL, LIBRARY AND PARKING STRUCTURE

This $18 million facility houses Burien’s City Hall and King County Library System’s Burien Branch Library. At a total of 49,000 SF, the Library occupies the first and second floors, with the City Hall located on the third floor. Offices, meeting rooms, council chambers, and shared spaces are incorporated around both the City Hall and Library Spaces. In addition, an associated two-level concrete parking garage, community open space, and a new city park is located adjacent to the building. This GC/CM project is LEED® Silver certified.

MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY, GAINES HALL

Located in the center of the Montana State University Campus, Gaines Hall is a 100,000 SF, four-story structure. This 1960s building is attached to the largest lecture hall on campus and houses the Department of Administration, support activities, classrooms, student and faculty workspace, teaching and research labs, support spaces, and offices.
Using the GC/CM method of delivery, this $26 million renovation project will include of complete demolition down to the concrete structure. The new facility will feature a new lecture hall, upgrade of interior finishes, lab / classroom build-outs, new casework, new data networks throughout the building, and enhancement of ADA access.
Slated for completion in June 2010, this is the State of Montana’s first GC/CM project.

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, MHSC J1/J2 MICROBIOLOGY RENOVATION

BNB is currently providing preconstruction and construction services for the renovation of two floors in the existing J-Wing of the Magnusson Health Sciences Center (MHSC). The $13.5 million project will demolish the existing interior space and provide 33,000 SF of new wet labs, dry labs, teaching and research space, and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Enhancements to the School of Medicine Department of Microbiology J-Wing will include improved traffic flow and communication within labs, lab suites, and the department as well as provide flexible and common support areas. This GC/CM project is anticipated for completion April 2011.
