UC DAVIS, RESEARCH AND TEACHING WINERY AND AUGUST A. BUSCH III BREWING AND FOOD SCIENCE LABORATORY

This $16 million design-build project for the University of California, Davis will consist of three components: 1) the winery for the Department of Viticulture and Ecology 2) the brewery small scale fermentation and classroom and 3) food pilot plant for the Department of Food Science and Technology. The facility will house a working, small-scale winery, brewery, and food processing facility in addition to a milk processing room. Once completed, this project will provide a world-class research and teaching facility. Support spaces for each department will include laboratories, classrooms, offices, controlled temperature rooms, and storage facilities. The project will be designed and built to achieve LEED® Platinum certification with special attention to site sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environment quality, and innovation and design process. Design and preconstruction efforts will continue over the next several months with completion anticipated for July 2010.

MUCKLESHOOT INDIAN TRIBE, K-12 CAMPUS

BNB built a new state-of-the-art K-12 campus for the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe which includes three, two-story classroom buildings and one multi-purpose facility. The campus is comprised of classrooms for typical academics as well as specialized spaces for computer labs, art, life sciences, physical sciences, home economics, language, performing arts, cultural, gifted and special education programs, vocational shops, library / media, indoor gathering space, dining, physical education, and administration. The campus also includes multiple play areas, athletic fields, and bleachers.

KING COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM, FIVE DESIGN-BUILD LIBRARIES

These design–build projects for the King County Library System included five new libraries in five different locations: Black Diamond, Carnation, Fall City, Auburn, and Snoqualmie. This is the first time that KCLS has used the design-build delivery method. The project included demolition of the existing facilities as well as coordination of owner move-out and move-in activities. The five libraries, ranging in construction cost from $1.8 - $2.2 million each, feature community gathering spaces and meeting rooms.
Although these projects are not LEED® certified, they are all LEED® compliant. Sustainable elements include enhanced stormwater design, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, commissioning, onsite recycling, and recycled materials. BNB also incorporated bicycle racks, public transportation access, reduced heat island effect, reduced light pollution, water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, lighting controls, and daylighting.

GLAXOSMITHKLINE, CAFETERIA AND EXERCISE BUILDING

This $2.3 million, design-build cafe and exercise building is located in the western portion of the GlaxoSmithKline campus. The cafeteria includes a full commercial kitchen and two dining areas that can seat up to 300 people. Both dining areas feature multi-media equipment for presentations. The northern dining area includes a flexible folding partition to accommodate a training area. The exercise facility includes locker rooms adjacent to the fitness center and offices. The cafeteria also features an integral security system that interfaces with the existing campus system. The 11,000 SF building was completed May 2008.

BAYER HEALTHCARE, NORTHPOINTE CONSOLIDATION

This design-build project for Bayer consolidated the Seattle locations to the new Lynnwood campus. The facility supports quality control, process development, and GMP warehouse services for the FDA licensed therapeutic protein Leukine. The expansion to the existing campus consists of a new 5,200 SF GMP warehouse, 3,000 SF of FDA validated quality control and process development labs, and 11,000 SF of tenant improvements. This 10-month project was completed January 2008.

AUBURN MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING AND PARKING STRUCTURE

Completed September 2009, this $13 million design-build project included the shell and core construction of a 45,000 SF medical office building with plans for a first floor oncology center. Also on the first floor, the lobby was built-out to feature high-end tiles with deco-poured flooring. The three-story, concrete tilt-up building also houses rooftop equipment, elevators, and a VAV unit on each floor. Also included in the project was a new 105,000 SF, four-level parking structure with over 310 stalls featuring a unique lighting system that illuminates the cast-in-place pillars.
